I am passionate about providing service to underserved communities, especially resettled migrant communities. I am proud to have been featured in two articles that highlight my work with locally resettled refugee populations.
ROC is a registered 501(c) non-profit advocating for a global society where refugee camps are not considered long-term solutions, while simultaneously encouraging universities and surrounding communities to consider their own misperceptions of those migrating across international borders.
The vast majority of refugees have faced extreme circumstances while living in transit, spending decades in encampments with unsafe living conditions, insufficient daily necessities, and increased spread of communicable disease. Due to these experiences, many suffer from chronic pain or co-morbid conditions without needed medication, and struggle emotionally from feelings of hopelessness, isolation, loss of status, and statelessness.
The Medical Relief Fund was started with the understanding everyone deserves access to medical care, no matter their political status or experience crossing international borders. Those organizing the fund are so convinced by this fundamental principle, all are volunteering their time to ensure that 100% of the funds go to those in need of financial support to cover costs relating to medical expenses.
The further establishment of this program will enhance access to care by reducing barriers for resettled individuals navigating the U.S. healthcare system.
So far, we have raised more than $23,000 !!!
